Nova Southeastern University's Undergraduate Honors Program provides a value-added experience for highly motivated and high achieving undergraduate students through curricular and co-curricular program and activities.

Program Goal

Our goal is to encourage greater academic interaction between faculty and students through exploration of disciplinary inquiry and establishment of community.

Undergraduate Honors Program Descriptions

General Honors Program

Students in the General Honors Program are required to complete 15 credits of Honors coursework, Honors seminars and Honors-level general education classes—prior to graduation. Honors coursework must be completed at NSU. Students are strongly encouraged to complete Honors coursework in the first two years of enrollment. Students are invited to this program on the basis of prior academic performance. Approximately 10% of each year's entering student class—distributed across all majors—are invited to participate.

(Participation in this program is not a prerequisite for the Divisional Program).
Divisional Honors Program
Students in the Divisional Honors Program work on an undergraduate research project under the direction of a faculty adviser. The program is open to juniors and seniors invited to participate according to criteria established by each academic program.
Co-Curricular Honors Program
Students in the Honors Program connect classroom experience with experiences outside the classroom. This may include support for study abroad opportunities, speakers, and social activities.

* Students who successfully complete requirements of the General Honors Program and the Divisional Honors Program will be recognized for this accomplishment.

Undergraduate Honors Program Benefits

Nova Southeastern University is known for our small classes, which allow for a more personal, interactive environment. With our Undergraduate Honors Program, classes are even more selective and allow for additional benefits to the students. The direct interaction with full-time faculty allows students to gain a more comprehensive, interactive approach to their learning process. Students are free to explore ideas, ask creative questions, and become more innovative in their thinking processes.

  • Hands-On Learning - The students will not rely on books and lectures alone, but will be able to directly participate within each class through examination of thoughts and theories.
  • Individualized Study - Opportunities will be available for students to conduct undergraduate research studies or study abroad.
  • Special Recognition - All Honors courses will be noted on the student’s permanent transcript, showing prospective employers or graduate and professional schools the enhanced education the student received.
  • Scholarship Rewards - All students will have the opportunity to qualify for an Honors Program Scholarship in the amount of $500.00 per year.
